Love Love Love

Just wanted to express my love for French born hair stylist Charlie Le Mindu and all his wonderful work.

These are a selection from his S/S 09 collection, however he recently presented his A/W 2010 collection at On/Off London Fashion Week.

His designs have really inspired me to take my design further and fit elements of hair into the styling as well.

Fear

Whilst reading up on hair and its history etc there was a common theme i notice attached to the subject. In many situations hair is associated with a fear, a fear of the hairdresser, a fear of having it cut, the fear of finding hair in unusual places. I find this particularly interesting as it is a natural thing for most of us to have hair, so why do we find it so disgusting?

When my friends looked through the book 'Hair 'em, Scare 'em' (my new bible!) their reactions to the images were 'eww' 'gross' or 'that's weird' because to them it was not seen as the norm or how 'we' stereotypically image hair should be displayed.
Some of the magical images:

But to me it is a beautiful thing that can be styled, sculpted, coloured etc into just about anything and can change the way someone looks or feels within an instance.

After a bit of a tutorial with a tutor who is a fellow hair enthusiast i realize there is A LOT to do, however all is very exciting! So the experimentation continues [images i will upload tomorrow] and the hair is getting everywhere!

This week has also consisted of many e-mails being sent back and forth trying to book models, illustrators, photographers and stylists for the look book shoots. Although i have yet to complete a hat, i have put together a timetable so that i can set myself targets to work to. So my first shoot will be on the 5th March at the photographers studio back home in Essex.

 Model: Ruth Bright

So with so much to do my latest 'To Do' list consists of,
-sketchbook work.
-experiment, experiment, experiment!
-confirm model and photographer for first shoot.
-come up with colour themes for styling of garments.
-final project name.
-book studio for April shoots.

Now the first thing i want to tick off is coming up with a new name for my project/collection, let the brainstorming commence...

MUA, Hair Designer, Model and more...

This week it feels like i have been here, there and everywhere! Sunday I led a small team and designed the hair and make-up for another Daily Echo fashion show. The theme was prom as all the teens are already starting to look for their dresses!
I also tried my hand at modeling this week (amusing i know!)
as a friend was let down by the model she had booked, so i filled in last minute. It was for a project to do with bullying and self expression but was lots of fun!

MUA: Fenella St John.
I have also been busy searching for models and finalizing all of the designs for my collection, and today I experimented making the pom poms out of hair, however this wasn't as successful as i had hoped so i will need to re-look at this design and research other options.

'Style Me Famous'

Last Wednesday, along with a film crew and make-up team i styled the hair for a Kim Kardashian styled shoot. I have just received the images so take a look for yourselves and see what you think...

It was for Emily Giles (my bff!) current project for her tv series, 'Style Me Famous'. Her blog offers style tips on how to dress like you're fave star and shows her progress as she tries out all the tricks of the trade.

Pom Pom Fun!

After my tutorial last week i had a bit of a knock of confidence in my project and felt pretty deflated but luckily i have the most FAB friends and hair tutor around and they quickly kicked me (not literally!) back into focus! Soooo over the past few days i have been homebound in Essex and practicing making pom poms for my first hat design. I've started pom poming in wool but will move onto hair when i get the knack of it!

I have also been keeping a close eye on Gaga to seeing what style genius she is coming up with next. The Grammys were last night and she was...well Gaga but stunning! We love a bit of Armani sparkle!

Another outfit that got a lot of attention was Imogen Heap's crazy twitter dress that updated her on tweets and showed videos of her followers, I was loving the umbrella though! Noted for inspiration when making umbrella inspired hat.
Big thanks again to my buddies for helping me out last week!

Designs Designs

Just been trolling through my magazine box to see if any inspiration jumps out at me for my designs. I've been here a while but have sketched out a few ideas so i'll see how these develop. I am going to visit one of my make up and hair tutors tomorrow to see what she thinks and get some advice on techniques so i can start getting to work!

Huse Muse?

So after much deliberation I have decided that stereotypical or not, LADY GAGA will be my muse for this collection. She is a big influence when it comes to trend setting at the moment and many designers are trying to get her in their clothes. I believe she is always trying to push style as far as it can go, and that is what I intend to do with this collection, so we make a good match so far!I have also decided that my main target audience will be publications and other designers, so i'm off to look at more of the latest catwalk pics to see what they're up to.

And it begins...

Had my first fmp tutorial this week which gave me ALOT to think about. First thing i need to define is who my collection will be targeted at and so i have been thinking over the last few days who my target market will be?? Will I have a muse?? Hmm... will keep you posted!
